By Josie Whitehead

Paint me a picture of red vintage wine;

Use green for the grass and the sweet smelling pine.

     Paint azure blue seas and an indigo sky

     And paint ships with white sails that slowly glide by.

Paint me a picture of sunset red skies –

A picture of beauty to delight human eyes;

    Paint red rosy apples and red berries too –

    And paint for me something that’s different and new.

Paint me a picture of icebergs and snow –

Paint me a picture of faces aglow.

    Paint me a picture – yes, paint one today

    That’s colourful, cheerful, not gloomy and grey.

Paint me a picture to light up my heart –

Take paints and a paintbrush and come let us start.

    Paint me a picture that, when winter is here,

    Will light up my life with contentment and cheer.

Follow-up:  Although I love painting pictures in words, I'm not at all good at painting pictures with a paint brush.  If you are, and would like to illustrate any of my poems, please do contact me.  (See my main poetry index).  I do believe that painting a picture with paint or with words is good for the soul - and it takes your mind off worries and is a healthy and happy occupation.  Do you agree - or what do you do when things get you down?  Josie
